Career guidance interview with mobility
The mobility counselling interview is based on the methodology of guidance counselling in a European and international dimension. It is practised by a lifelong guidance practitioner and aimed at young people, students or adults with a mobility project. The progression proposed here is not intended to be a model based on research, but simply a reference enabling the practitioner to conduct a counselling interview without forgetting the key points to deliver valuable mobility counselling.
From the beginning, it is important to build a climate of trust and authenticity with the person who has a mobility project in order to bring him/her to express personal ideas easily and to perceive the feasibility of the project in the short or long-term.
The mobility guidance interview is carried out through open or closed questions asked to the applicant and through reformulations and summaries of the contents expressed.
The guidance professional knows how to adapt to the context according to a "classical" progression which takes place as follows :
- Welcoming, building confidence in an atmosphere of goodwill
- Analyse the demand : biographical elements, studies carried out, qualifications acquired, context of the demand, motivation for European mobility, plans for the future
- Define objectives, evaluate the feasibility of the project, bring out the representations, prioritise the stages necessary for the implementation of mobility
- Identify information that is missing but nevertheless necessary for the applicant : financial aspects, administrative procedures, management of the timetable
- Transmit the information required to achieve the implementation of the project
- Conclude by reiterating the request, the important points raised and propose a timetable for the implementation of the mobility project
This interview may be a one-time interview or may require several meetings to lead to implementation.
